Parking a Domain for Profit
Share Article

One of the ways domain investors generate income from their domain names is through parked domain monetization. This involves registering a domain without developing a full website or using it for email. Instead, the domain is directed to a single web page filled with ads. These ads can generate revenue in two different ways:

  • Pay Per Click (PPC). Each time a user clicks on an ad on your domain, you are paid. This is the more common method of generating parking revenue.
  • Cost Per Impression (CPM) You are paid if the ad on your domain is viewed a particular number of times, usually 1000. For example, for every 1000 times your site is visited, you earn $1.

If I Park My Domains, Will They Make Money?

Parked domain monetization primarily depends on type-in traffic. Type-in traffic describes the behavior of users typing a domain name directly into the browser's address bar to get to a website instead of using a search engine to find it. Because of this, many of the parked domains that generate significant amounts of revenue are those that are generic. For example, if a user is looking for dog collars but have no idea who sells them online, they would likely type in "dogcollars.com" into their browser's address bar. If the domain name you have in mind is very unique, you probably won't get enough traffic to generate any significant revenue.

Should I Park My Domain?

Many parking services are free to try. If you own any domain names that aren't being used, it may pay off to park them with a domain monetization service!

Choosing a Domain Parking Company

Dynadot does not currently offer domain parking monetization services. However, you can register a domain name with us and use a 3rd party domain parking company for monetization.
