Domain ownership switch and forwarding
8/7/2013 10:34
Hello, we have an antiquated website that we are wanting to shut down and forward clients to our new site. the old site domain is registered with my it guy and we are wanting to move ownership of it to our account here at dynadot (issue,1), when we do so, how can i keep my email up and running on the original domain (issue 2)?

FYI- old site domain is mhparts.com, new site is magicmobilehomesupply.com

I want to have mhparts.com traffic push customers to the magicmobilehomesupply.com site, but i also would like to keep all my email accounts under the mhparts.com domain

thanks

ps- using google apps for email

Once the domain is registered here, you'll be able to use our DNS to both forward to your new site (stealth not available in this instance) and enter the MX records you'll need to keep your Google Apps email working.

As for getting the domain here, you'd need to transfer it over.  If your IT guy has it registered with another Registrar, you'll need him to unlock the domain and give you the authorization code.  With that info, you can create the transfer order here:

https://www.dynadot.com/domain/transfer.html

If your IT guy has the name registered with us already and you only need to move it into your account, you can ask him to do this instead:

How do I initiate a change ownership request if I am the current owner (domain push)?

There are a few things you need to do before you start your change ownership request (domain push) order.

  • Ask the recipient of the domain(s) to create a free Dynadot account if they do not already have one.
  • Once the recipient has created a Dynadot account, ask for their Push Username. (NOTE: The Push Username name is not necessarily the same as your Dynadot username). This is needed to move or "push" the domain into their account.
  • Make sure your domain is not about to expire. After you submit the domain push order, the recipient must accept the move before the domain expires. Otherwise, the domain must be renewed before it can be moved.
  • Before you start the domain push, you will need to unlock the domain(s) you want to push.

Once you've unlocked your domain(s) and have the recipient's push username, you can start the change ownership (domain push) order using the following steps:

  1. Sign in to your Dynadot account.
  2. Select "My Domains" from the left-side menu bar and click "Manage Domains" in the drop-down.
  3. Make sure the domain is unlocked
  4. Check the box next to the domain name(s) you want to move and select "Change Account" from the "Action" drop-down menu.
  5. Enter the Recipient Push Username" in the "Domain Change Account (Push)" pop-up window. Check "Keep current DNS settings" if you wish to retain the domain's current DNS settings.
  6. Click on the "Push Domains" button.
  7. Hover over your shopping cart and click "View Cart" button, then follow the "Checkout" to "Submit Order".

You have done all your steps! An email will be sent to the recipient of the domain(s) asking them to confirm the move. Once the recipient accepts the move, the domain(s) will automatically be moved from your account to the recipient's account. The push request will expire in about a week if no response.

NOTE:

  • To do a bulk domain push, simply check off all the domains you would like to push and then follow the same steps above.
  • Custom DNS settings do not carry over when a domain is moved between Dynadot accounts, unless the option "Keep current DNS settings" is checked.
  • Please note that we'll be sending the Forum Name and Organization / Name to the recipient account.
