9/12/2007 22:29
Hi, i got my website set-up, and my domain name is working, someone said i have to add name server's, since im using a Domain and Webhost by Dynadot, what nameserver's do i add and what do they do?

Also, You can view my site by going to http://www.example.com/index.html, why won't it show up when i just put in http://www.example.com, it comes up with a Dynadot message? Thanks.

Ok, i've fixed all of that, just one more thing, is there anyway to hide the file extension when clicking on a page, for example, http://www.example.com/index.html is there anyway to make it come out http://www.example.com/index/ instead?

Hiding a file's extension is not possible when visiting a web page.  The reason why is because the ability to hide a file's extension is done through the operating system of your computer.  It does not apply to web browsing because any "file" that does not have an extension is assumed to be a file directory.  So, http://www.example.com/index/ is actually a file directory called "index" in your web space's home directory.

The index.html (or index.htm) file is a special case because the when a web browser is pointed to a directory on a domain, the browser will automatically look for a index.html or index.htm file.  That's why when you visit http://www.example.com, you are automatically directed to http://www.example.com/index.html even though the full URL is not displayed in the web browser's URL bar.  (Be aware that this isn't always the case since there is domain forwarding and stealth forwarding.)

So, http://www.example.com/index/ will cause the web browser to look for this URL:

http://www.example.com/index/index.html
