I've read that some registrars will take a transfer and not charge for the remaining time in the registration.  I have a domain at another registrar and have 10 months remaining there.  I'll like to transfer it here to keep all mine together, but don't want to lose what I've paid for those 10 months.

If you transfer a domain to Dynadot, a year should be added onto the expiration date. You would not lose the amount of time you have left.
