Problem with a domain
7/8/2014 02:08
I accidentally let one of my domain names lapse (expired in May, TLD is .net) and I'm unable to buy another year of subscription from the dynadot website while I'm logged in. I had the assumption that dynadot would hold onto the domain for a month before it's released as being untaken, but it appears I'm wrong. Is there anyway to buy this domain back or will dynadot hold onto it forever?

Thanks.

Are you referring to the .NET domain that expired on May 14th? You did have 40 days to grace renew at the regular cost. Since the domain was not renewed within the grace renewal period, it was deleted from our system and is now in redemption period. You may still be able to restore it.

How do I restore my domain in redemption period?

If the grace renewal period of your domain has already passed, you may still be able to restore the domain. Unfortunately, this is not guaranteed and will cost more because the domain has already been deleted.

To restore your domain, please follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your Dynadot account.
  2. Select "My Domains" from the left-side menu bar and click on "Inactive Domains" from the drop-down.
  3. Check the box next to the domain name(s) you wish to restore. If the domain name(s) do not have a checkbox next to them, they cannot be restored.
  4. Click on the "Restore" button. The domain(s) will be added to your shopping cart at the top right-side of the page.
  5. Click on your shopping cart to access the item(s) in your cart.
  6. Press the "Check Out" buttons to submit your restore order.

NOTE: A restore order can take up to 24 hours to process.

In most cases, a restore can be done within 30 days (the typical redemption period of most domain extensions) after the renewal grace period (typically 30 days) has ended. However, sometimes a domain has received a bid in our expired auctions and as a result, it cannot be restored.

If you don't want to restore, you can wait to register the domain again when the Central Registry releases it back to the public. They generally do this 75 days after the expiration date.
