I just have purchased a new domain to take advantage of the privacy promo code...and after I put the code I receive this:

Could not apply promo code.

   The order does not qualify for this promo code. Order must include privacy for new domain registrations.

It looks like you did not check the box to add privacy as it was not included in your order.   Unfortunately, the code does not work when trying to add privacy retroactively.
