Stealth forwarding is similar to domain forwarding except the domain name stays in the web browser's URL bar instead of being replaced by the new page's URL. This is is why it is called "stealth" forwarding because it appears that the web page displayed is actually part of the domain. So, say that you have a domain named myexample.org, and you want to use stealth forwarding to have your domain point to http://name.somedomain.com. When you use stealth forwarding, http://www.myexample.org will load the index page located at http://name.somedomain.com, however the http://www.myexample.org address will be displayed in the web browser's URL bar instead of the http://name.somedomain.com address.Find out how to set up stealth forwarding. Please be aware there are some drawbacks to using stealth domain forwarding.Stealth forwarding only affects the domain itself. If you want to set up email forwarding with your domain, that is done separately.Dynadot provides domain forwarding, stealth forwarding, and email forwarding free of charge when you register or transfer a domain name to us.
To set your domain to stealth forwarding, please follow these steps: Sign in to your Dynadot account. Select "My Domains" from the left-side menu bar and click "Manage Domains" in the drop-down. Check the box next to your domain name(s) and click on the "Action" button. Choose "DNS Settings" from the "Action" list. On the DNS page, select the "Stealth Forwarding" setting from the top drop-down menu. Enter the URL of the web page you wish to stealth forward to, following the format of the example given. You may also enter the Title of the website here. Press the "Stealth Forward Domain" button to save your changes. Please be aware that it might take some time for your name server changes to propagate, and there are some drawbacks to using stealth forwarding.
Yes, there is a drawback when you use stealth forwarding. With stealth forwarding, visitors to your website will not be able to see your site's sub-directory structure. They will also not be able to bookmark specific pages on your website when you use stealth forwarding. This is because stealth forwarding uses frames and only serves to forward a visitor to the web page you have specified in the stealth forwarding option. Once your visitor has reached your website, the URL in the address bar will not change no matter which page he/she navigates to until he/she reaches a web page which breaks out of the frames. Once a visitor breaks out of the frames, the website's real URL address will be visible in the web browser's URL bar.For example, say you have a page http://name.somedomain.com/folder/somepage.html and when you use stealth forwarding, you want http://www.myexample.org/folder/somepage.html to show up instead of http://name.somedomain.com/folder/somepage.html. This will not work with stealth forwarding since your domain name can only hide the URL of your website and will always show up as http://www.myexample.org/.If you want to be able to see your sub-directory structure, then you must create a website on myexample.org. You can do this through Dynadot's website builder or with web hosting, so your files are all hosted on myexample.org instead of at name.somedomain.com. You can also choose to use our regular domain forwarding.Find out how to set up stealth forwarding.Find out how to set up domain forwarding.
